Day 28: Grateful for the Word of God

In the beginning was the Word,

and the Word was with God,

and the Word was God.

(John 1:1)

In 2004, I found myself in a desperate situation. I had been raised

in church and as I grew older I drifted into the world and away from

church. When I got into tough situations and needed God, Jesus was my

911 guy.

Prior to 2004 when I would pray to Jesus, my prayers would be a

quick cry for help. I would go on my way trying to solve my problems all

on my own, never really taking the time to see what God had to say about

my situation in the Word. (On a side note, in every situation you face,

God will give you wisdom and instruction in the Bible.)

The Bible truly is Basic Instruction Before Leaving Earth. Jesus does

hear every cry for help and He’s working on each situation for our good.

Romans 8:28 makes that promise to us.

The more I studied the Word of God and began seeking God, the

more my relationship with Jesus was strengthened. My heart was being

healed. My life was starting to make sense. My love and compassion for

others grew. I knew I was no longer the same. The Word of God is powerful

and it will transform your life. The Word of God is truth and the truth

will set you free.

One of my favorite scriptures is Jeremiah 29:11: “For I know the

plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to

harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Don’t you love those promises? His plans are to prosper us, to give

us hope and a future. What is often missed in the scriptures is the action

that God is instructing us to take. The wonderful promises from the Lord

in Jeremiah 29:11 are followed by: then you will call upon me and come

and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me

when you seek me with all your heart.

God wants us to call on Him and come to Him. He wants us to

pray. We need to do our part and God will do His. That’s how the most

important relationship in your life works. When we obey and call upon

Jesus, He will listen. Isn’t that a reason to be thankful? The Creator of the

Universe will hear your prayers!

Finally, God instructs us to seek Him with all our heart. This can

be done by reading the Word, joining a growth group or Bible study and

asking Him to take part in all of our daily activities.

God really is interested in the details of your life. God promises that

you will find Him. It’s important that you seek Him with all your heart. A

half-hearted attempt will only leave you frustrated and disappointed. Seek

God wholeheartedly and live obediently according to the Word, and you

will find Him. That’s one of the most dependable promises of God.
