Our Gratitude Movement

(To see the entire devotional, click on the title of the devotional.)

Does a grateful person really live in your house? It’s easy for most of us to feel grateful when external circumstances align with our internal wishes. But what about when they don’t? When life is hard, difficult and messy…are you able to give thanks then? Do the words “thank you” come out of your mouth as quickly and as freely when you feel like you’re trudging uphill in life as much as they do when it feels like you’re running downhill?

I have always considered myself a grateful person. If you could listen in on my prayer life, you would learn that the words I say most often are “Thank You, Lord.” I have always tried to express gratitude to others in timely and appropriate ways. But as I have  recently chosen to study the topic of gratitude on a deeper level, I have learned that I have a ways to go in living out the command of Scripture  to “give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” (1 Thessalonians 5:18)

I would like to invite you to take a journey with me over the next 30 days—a journey into living a more thankful life. I have lately been drawn to the idea of teaching, equipping and resourcing people on how to live more thankful lives. The “30 Days of Thanksgiving” is an attempt to help people start going “gratitudinal.”

The sermons, the yard signs and door hangers, and most of all the daily devotions written by a talented team that I lovingly call “The Journey Thankful Writers” will give you an opportunity to learn, reflect and then act according to the overwhelming grace and gratitude God has poured into our lives through a life-changing relationship with Jesus Christ.

I look forward to seeing and hearing how God will use this “gratitude movement” in families, our community, our social networks and our church over the next 30 days. I pray it will be something we will all give thanks for.

Looking forward to the Gratitude Movement. Sometimes it is hard to realize how much we have to be grateful for, we just take it for granted. Hoping that the Movement will continue on, this will just be the beginning and it will continue to blossom and make our journey better every day. Thank you for such a great idea.
